HIGHMOUNT RECEIVES OCCUPATIONAL EXCELLENCE ACHIEVEMENT AWARDHIGHMOUNT EXPLORATION & PRODUCTION NAMES JASON GARNER CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

HOUSTON, TX (February 16, 2010) – HighMount Exploration & Production today announced that Jason A. Garner has been named Chief Operating Officer, effective March 1, 2010. Jason is currently HighMount’s Vice President, Western Division.

“Jason has been instrumental in establishing HighMount as a first-class natural gas producer in the Sonora field since the company formed in 2007,” said Tim Parker, President and Chief Executive Officer. “This promotion reflects his many contributions to the success of HighMount. I am confident that Jason will continue to deliver positive results for our stakeholders, focusing on maximizing the value of our assets and strengthening the communities in which we do business.”

Jason holds B.S. and M.S. degrees from West Virginia University in Petroleum Engineering. Prior to becoming HighMount’s Western Division Vice President, Jason worked in various engineering, planning, and management positions for Dominion E&P in Richmond, Houston, and Oklahoma City.

HIGHMOUNT RECEIVES OCCUPATIONAL EXCELLENCE ACHIEVEMENT AWARDHIGHMOUNT RECEIVES OCCUPATIONAL EXCELLENCE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
In honor of our employee commitment to excellence in safety, HighMount has been named a 2009 recipient of the National Safety Council's "Occupational Excellence Achievement Award." This distinguished award recognizes HighMount for its lost time incident performance during the 2008 calendar year.

The National Safety Council annually recognizes organizations who achieve a lost time incident rate at least 50% below their industry group. According to the Bureau of Labor, the E&P industry achieved a lost time incident rate of 1.2 while HighMount achieved a lost time incident rate of 0.31 in 2008.

The value and significance of this award is amplified by the dedication of all HighMount employees, from leadership and management to the field and corporate staff. It is the sound behavior and diligent actions of all HighMount employees that facilitate safe work practices and enable the organization to achieve positive results.

While HighMount’s ultimate goal of zero incidents in the workplace remains, employees can be very proud of the good things that the organization does, the safe behavior that is practiced and the positive results achieved in 2008.

2008: OUR YEAR IN SAFETY2008: OUR YEAR IN SAFETY
After nearly 3 million feet drilled without an injury related incident, 23 drilling and well servicing rig safety inspections and no reported major spills throughout the year, it’s fair to say that in 2008 HighMount continued on their path of an ongoing commitment to workplace safety.

But this won’t come as a surprise to many within the organization, as HighMount has placed considerable emphasis on workplace safety.

To date, HighMount’s incident rate is 50% less than that of industry peers and less than 25% of the industry as a whole - a tremendous feat not ignored by the National Safety Council. In May of 2008, the organization recognized HighMount’s Tuscaloosa and Sonora offices with Perfect Record Awards, awards given to a company that has operated continuously without the occurrence of occupational injury or illness involving days away from work or death for a period of at least 12 consecutive months.

HighMount Manager of Regional Production Operations, Ray Barnhart, says that the secret is in being proactive. “Per our master service agreement, HighMount will not employ contractors who refuse to operate safely.”

Adds Eastern Vice President, Scott Carrasco, “Our focus is to ensure that HighMount employees and contractors perform all work efforts in a way that utilizes the highest safety protocol. We accept nothing less.”

Without question this means that the drilling team as well as HighMount contractors must attend daily safety meetings and wear personal protection equipment, but that’s just the beginning.

“We emphasize safety in everything,” explains Safety Advisor, Larry Jones. A large part of ensuring workplace safety comes in the form of drilling rig inspections. Twice each year, HighMount reaches out to a third party to conduct the inspections in an effort to educate contractors and provide them with the information they need to make improvements without having to spend an exorbitant amount of money.

During the inspections, the third party vendors take an intense look at the physical condition and maintenance of the drilling rig in addition to the various ways in which drilling rig operators engage in safety and environmental precautions.

“We’re not trying to make them look bad, we just want them to operate as safely as possible,” Barnhart explains.

So after a year of extraordinary safety accomplishments, what does 2009 hold for HighMount?

For Jones, the answer is simple, “We just seek to maintain our commitment to workplace safety.”

Safety & Regulatory Environmental Director, Tray Taylor concurs. “HighMount has the unique ability to listen to the lessons learned by employees as well as contractors and incorporate this information into our safety practices. This is an integral part of our safety program as it instills ownership and pride in our safety team just by knowing that they, as individuals can make a difference in our program. Everyone should have a commitment to safety.”

Chief Operating Officer, Jim Abercrombie voices the same sentiment, “The safety of our people and our facilities is our first priority and goal and quite simply will not be compromised. Safety is not just an activity we are required to do, it is a philosophy we fully believe in, and are committed to. That belief and commitment in safety is a fundamental concept in our pursuit to be the finest natural gas company in the North America.”

HIGHMOUNT DONATES TO SUTTON COUNTY ARENA IMPROVEMENT PROJECTHIGHMOUNT DONATES TO SUTTON COUNTY
ARENA IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

After years of housing some of the best rodeo events in Texas, the crown jewel of Sonora, Texas, the Sutton County Arena, is getting an upgrade thanks in part to HighMount.

In mid-November, HighMount executives traveled to Sonora to present a donation to the Sutton County Arena Improvement Committee to help with the renovation of the aging arena which has not undergone any improvement or expansion in nearly three decades.

The donation is the first of several as HighMount strives to provide $100,000 over a four year period to the project. Proceeds contributed by HighMount will work to construct updated concession areas, which will be permanently named after the company.

In addition to updated concession areas, the renovation project seeks to make a number of improvements including: ADA compliance, 2,000 person seating capacity, quality sound and lighting technology as well as modern lavatories.

The arena, which has become an economic lifeline of sorts for the small West Texas community is most often used as an entertainment venue and place of gathering to enjoy rodeo and livestock activities. Chief among events held at the storied arena is the Annual Sutton County Days and Outlaw Pro Rodeo, the largest annual festival held in Sonora. Each year over a three day period, tourists from all over Texas travel to the town located in the Texas Hill Country to take in rodeo performances, dances, arts, crafts and delectable southern delicacies.

Upon completion, members of the Arena Improvement Committee hope that the updated arena will assist in the advancement of economic vitality of the community by attracting additional activities.

OKLAHOMA CITY EMPLOYEES GIVE HOPE WITH HABITAT FOR HUMANITYOKLAHOMA CITY EMPLOYEES GIVE HOPE
WITH HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
In early November, employees at HighMount’s Oklahoma City field office and CEO, Tim Parker, teamed up with Habitat for Humanity to help build homes in Hope Crossing, the largest green-built community in Habitat for Humanity history.

Braving temperatures in the low 60’s, HighMount employees managed to work up a sweat as their combined effort brought a home from a simple slab to the framing stage. Employees and volunteers were then treated to an appetizing feast, as Drilling Manager, Greg Muhlinghause, fired up the grill.

Taking advantage of this unique opportunity to give back, some employees like IT Enterprise Services Manager, Scott Davis, even brought the family along.

“Volunteering with Habitat for Humanity was an insightful experience not only for my daughters, but for me as well. To know that you've helped someone achieve a better quality of life simply by donating a fraction of time out of your own life made this experience a very positive one,” explains Davis, whose two daughters assisted with the project.

Terrill Munkres, who also brought along his family echoed the sentiment. “My wife, son and I, all thought the experience of seeing the house go from a slab to completely framed in one day was extremely rewarding.”

Since it’s inception in 1976, Habitat for Humanity has built nearly 300,000 homes around the world, providing more than 1.5 million people in more than 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter.
